Females mate with the “murderous” male leader

The female langurs who had their babies killed by the new leading male did not leave the group, and resumed estrus one after another, mating with the “murderous” male.

This behavior was initially regarded as an abnormality due to an excessive density of individuals. But when similar behaviors were later found in various other mammals, including other primates, a functional explanation of the occurrence of infanticide was considered.
