Ambiguity of Words

In reality, there is no one-to-one correspondence between words and objects.

It is within the spirit that what is expressed (signifié) and what expresses it (signifiant) correspond. The object that has not become a word in the mind seeks symbols (signifiant), becomes apparent and suppresses the mind. Signifiant is, in other words, an order that calms the rough sea of the mind.

Also, there is no absolute meaning or usage of words. While language structures the human mind, everyday language is established according to the place and the situation of the world surrounding it at the time. This is the duplication of the inner language of mind and the daily language, and it is always context-dependent. *1

*1: For example, when we say, "Water!" we are using it with various different meanings for each situation, e.g. "I want to drink water," "I serve you water," "Cold water, not hot water." Therefore it can be said that the sentence defines the meaning of the word to some extent. This means that the generation of sentences does not simply come from a set of words. Our mind is always exploring the chemistry of word combinations.

*2: This is the only publication in his life. It consisted of numbered aphorisms. Although its subject is the philosophy of Logic, its consequences effected almost all the realms of Philosophy, and had a great influence on the establishment of Logic positivism. [Editorial Department]
