Ship of Theseus

Theseus is a hero of Greek mythology. A ship named after him had to be repaired many times, and finally all parts were replaced with new ones.

Can it be said that the ship is the same one before the repairmen ? Let us think about this question, because there are no old parts anywhere on the ship.

This is called the Ship of Theseus Paradox. It is a metaphor for the question of whether human brains or bodies should be considered as the same ones, after the molecules are interchanged over a long period of time.
