The misunderstood gorilla

The gorilla was one of the most understood animals at that time.

This great African ape was been labeled as “a devilish, brutal, and extremely ferocious animal” by European explorers in the 19th century. This is probably because the gorillas’ chest-beating sounded so powerful and intense that it was interpreted as a precursor to attack.
