Central African tropical forests, where two ape species live

Two great ape species, gorillas and chimpanzees, currently live sympatrically in tropical African forests. Today, Homo sapiens is the only living species of human, but in our evolutionary history, over 20 human species have appeared and then become extinct. Ecological comparisons of sympatric and allopatric apes can therefore help us to figure out the puzzle of the human evolution.
