Three hundred primate species

Currently, approximately 300 primate species are known to live on the Earth. They are categorized into strepsirrhines, New World monkeys, Old World monkeys, and apes, including Homo sapiens. More than half of the world’s current primates are endangered. Apes are thought to have separated from a common ancestor of Old World monkeys about 30 million years ago.
