Meat eating in primates

The second food revolution was the introduction of meat eating.

Two million years ago, the human brain, measuring approximately 600 cm3, was slightly larger than that of the gorillas, which measured approximately 500 cm3. The Oldowan stone tool was found in an archeological layer dating to about 2.5 million years ago—500,000 years earlier than the period mentioned above, and it is known that our ancestors increased their meat eating using this tool. Meats are 10 to 20 times higher in caloric value than leaves and two to five times higher in caloric value than fruit, and it is considered that the increased meat eating aided the increase of brain size, as the brain is an organ with a high energy consumption.
