Species with infanticide and species with no infanticide

Hrdy’s hypothesis was supported by subsequent studies. Of all mammals, it is among primates that infanticide is most widespread.

However, infanticide does not occur frequently in all primate species. In Japanese macaques, only a few cases have been reported in over 50 years of field studies. In addition, there are large regional differences in the frequency of infanticide in chimpanzees and gorillas.
