Food sharing appeared in species with burdensome child care

Apes take a long time to grow up. Marmosets give birth to twins and triplets, and males and older juveniles participate in raising the infants. The fact that food sharing is common in these species indicates that food sharing appears in species for which parenting carries a heavy burden.
