The conversations of gelada baboons

Gelada baboons form large troops consisting of many polygynous social units, with the entire troop totaling several hundred individuals. They emit a wide variety of voices when approaching, leaving, and grooming with other group members, and their voice is very musical, freely changing rhythm and accent, and spanning more than three octaves. In addition, they imitate the voices of other group members, and even harmonize with them to make new melodies. They are also able to voice displeasure, but in a way that does not frighten other individuals.
