Clear differences were found between the inter-group relationships of the Yakushima macaques and the inter-group relationships of the Kinkazan macaques. Hostile encounters between groups, commonly called “inter-group competition,” occurred three times more frequently on Yakushima than on Kinkazan. In addition, the hostile encounter between the Yakushima macaque groups further increased during the mating season (September to December), whereas there were no such increases between the groups on Kinkazan, even in the mating season.
