Is high intelligence unique to humans?

Humans who went into the savanna faced two problems: sparsely-distributed food, and a large number of predators. How did our ancestors overcome these problems?

Until the middle of the 20th century, anthropologists believed that humans dealt with those problems by developing the skills of tool use and communication, facilitated by their enlarged brain and high degree of intelligence.
