The mentality that produces violence

Why did violence increase sharply in civilized society?

It was triggered by the consolidation of food production and a growing awareness of land ownership as a result of population growth, but in fact, the mental conditions that led to violence were developed long before that—with the increase of empathy.

Empathy, enhanced by food sharing and joint caring, fostered the instinct to devote oneself to the group. It is thought that aggression towards enemies outside the group was amplified by the attachment to the land, resources, and the group itself, and also by the reinforcement through music and language of a sense of unity and discrimination between allies and enemies.
