The hunting hypothesis and 2001: A Space Odyssey

The scene at the beginning of the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick, strongly reflects the influence of the “hunting hypothesis.”

In the film, ape-men who live in the wild (possibly Australopithecus) encounter a mysterious object (the Monolith) from space, and are inspired to use animal bones for hunting, before learning to use them as weapons with which to fight each other.
