Brain growth and human sociality

The increase in brain volume had a major impact on the growth of children. Because the large brain required a lot of energy, body growth was delayed, and the labor cost of child rearing became higher.

Consequently, not only human mothers, but also fathers and other group members, including adults and adolescents, participated in the care of children. This cooperative child care may have enhanced the capacity for sympathy among group members, developing human sociality, where group members could consider another’s’ perspective, and members solved problems together

In this way, the food revolution that began with food sharing brought an increase in human brain size, and as a result, may have enhanced our intellectual capacity, including sociality.
