Issues with the social evolution model

Neither Itani’s social evolution model nor the Western socio-ecological model explain all the behaviors and structures found in the primate society. There are many exceptions. Primatologists have conducted further research to address those problems.

One of the species that has been thoroughly studied as a subject of research into primate society is the Japanese macaque.
