Fossey’s struggles and death

Many researchers visited the Karisoke Center, including Juichi Yamagiwa, who, under Fossey’s supervision, studied mountain gorillas there for two years from 1980. However, as gorillas subsequently became threatened by tourism and illegal hunting.  Fossey took an increasingly hard line to protect them, resulting in numerous conflicts with different stakeholders. In 1985, Fossey was assassinated.
