The origin of violence as primates

As explained in the first volume, a gorilla’s chest-beating is not always an aggressive display. The behavior has multiple meanings, including the expression of curiosity or an invitation to play. Nevertheless, gorillas have long been misunderstood as violent animals.

There is a lot of misunderstanding about primate violence, and misconceptions about primates can result in misunderstandings about the history of human evolution.
