EPUB3.1において、これまでのEDUPUBの活動成果はすべてが「先送りされた」。
EDUPUBは教育目的の機能を、電子書籍の世界的標準フォーマットであるEPUBへ付与するための活動。一時動詞から名詞へ移行する。つまり活動の成果がそのまま、EPUB新規格へ反映されるのか、と思われていたが（今年になって「EPUB for education」に名称変更された）、そうはならず、EDUPUBは動詞のママでいることになりそうな雲行きとなった。
なぜならIDPFがW3Cと、「EPUB＋Web」構想の下に統合へ向かうことになったからだ。
「EPUB＋Web」構想が向かう先には、教育目的の仕様をEPUBへ取り組む活動と、重なる部分、また重ならない部分、両方がありうる。
ではこのまま、動詞としてのEDUPUBは雲散霧消、少なくとも活動の集約化より分散化、あるいはIDPF／W3C／IMS、三者それぞれの得意分野での活動が多極的に行われるようになるのか、と懸念もされた。
特にIMS（そしてIMSが主担当している項目分野）は、W3CとIDPFとが「HTML＋CSS」という共通言語の中で議論しているのに比べると、これまでの活動の歴史的背景もあり、EPUBへつないでいく部分で難所があった（詳しくは下記ご参照）。

そこへ７月７日、日本の七夕の日、IDPFと IMS Globalとが天の川で出会うことになった、との発表があった。
具体的にはIDPF・CTOであるMarkus Gylling 氏」が、
・IMS Global へ参加（as Solutions Architect）
・Head of Operations for IMS Europe
のポジションにつくことが発表されたのだ。

これでIDPF／W3C／IMS、この三者の運動体としてのEDUPUBの、相互連動的な活動がより強固になる。
推測でしかないが、IMS Europeがフランス主導であるのをけん制する意味があるかもしれない。とりわけ、そこでの目下の一番のテーマである、「弱いDRM」を、「EPUB＋Web」構想と齟齬のないものにするためという意図があったとも想像される。
業界識者の分析、論評を待ちたい。
